"What's Going on Behind Those Security Fences?"

This book is about a nuclear special weapons storage site located in the Manzano Mountains, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The site served our national defense program from 1950 through 1971 as a storage facility for some of the most destructive nuclear weapons ever created. In 1971, all weapons were transferred to a new facility on Kirtland Air Force Base, and the Manzano site was ultimately rendered "abandoned in place" in 1992 by the Department of Defense. The book contains historical information about New Mexico, Albuquerque, and Sandia Base as they relate to the development of site. It has stories about nuclear weapons accidents, aircraft crashes, almost shooting down a USAF helicopter to protect a weapon and radiation demonstration called "tickling the tigers tail." Evan as a relic of the past, Manzano still contributes to our nuclear weapons program today.

Overhead Espionage; A historical snapshot of UDS Areial Reconnaissance

The history of Aerial reconnaissance dates back to Napoleon Bonaparte’s French Balloon Corps in 1799. For 160 years, aerial reconnaissance, or Overhead Espionage, as it was referred to in its developmental years, has been an invaluable part of US intelligence gathering, military warfare, and the support of ground troops. Although overhead espionage is most often associated with the Cold War, it was effectively used by both the Union and Confederate Armies during the Civil War at the battles of Bull Run, Yorktown, and Vicksburg. Reconnaissance work has grown exponentially using many different types of aircraft. This book is a snapshot of significant first planes in the progression of overhead espionage, from the hot air balloon to the U-2 and the Blackbird spy planes. This book published by Sunstone Press is available through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, Google Play your local independent bookstore.
